We’re Not Just Another Leather Bag Store.

At Joywot, we create limited-edition pieces because we believe your bag should feel as special as you are, not something seen everywhere.

As an Ethiopian-owned brand, we’re deeply connected to the country’s rich leather heritage. Ethiopia has one of the largest cattle populations in Africa, yet much of its leather leaves the country as raw material, without the value and recognition it deserves. Joywot was created to be part of changing that.

By working directly with industry experts, women-owned partner, and skilled artisans in Ethiopia, we help keep craftsmanship, pride, and value within the communities behind the work.

Every Joywot bag is made from full-grain leather and crafted slowly and intentionally with timeless design in mind creating pieces designed to last for years, not seasons.

History of Ethiopian Leather

Ethiopia’s leather tradition is one of the oldest in the world, shaped by generations of craftsmanship and access to premium hides from cattle, goats, and sheep. As Africa’s leading cattle producer and one of the top producers globally, the country has long been recognized for the quality and durability of its leather.

Historically, leather played an important role in everyday life and was used for items such as clothing, baby carriers, drum covers, storage pieces, and ceremonial goods. Traditional techniques, including vegetable tanning and hand-finishing, were passed down through generations of artisans.

Today, Ethiopian leather craftsmanship continues to evolve through modern tanning and production methods while maintaining the skill, quality, and attention to detail that have defined the industry for centuries. This heritage continues to influence contemporary leather goods known for their durability, functionality, and timeless character.

Our Supplier

Our manufacturing partner, Natural Leather, is a women-owned business in Ethiopia where women make up 60–65% of the workforce. Led by a team with more than 15 years of experience in the leather and textile industry, they specialize in high-quality leather production with skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Although they had supplied brands within Africa for years, partnering with Joywot helped open access to international markets, leading to their first export license outside the continent.

We chose to work with Natural Leather because of their craftsmanship, experience, and shared commitment to producing quality leather goods with intention and care.

Their full-grain leather is sourced from tanneries that prioritize responsible sourcing and environmental standards, supporting a more thoughtful approach to leather production. Together, we are building a partnership centered on craftsmanship, opportunity, and long-term value.
